Frequently
Asked Questions:
Will my water problems go away on there own?
No.
Once water finds the weakest point into your home it will only get
worse the longer you wait to fix the problem. What could be a
relatively small problem this year could turn into a nightmare next
year. Procrastinating a water problem is bad not only for your
personal health, but also to the very foundation your home is built on.
Is mold as dangerous as people say?
Yes!
Certain individuals with chronic respiratory disease (chronic
obstructive pulmonary disorder, asthma) may experience difficulty
breathing. Individuals with immune suppression may be at increased risk
for infection from molds. Mold has also been know to affect kids and
small pets in harmful ways. We highly suggest you get your home
fully waterproofed to prevent any heath concerns associated with mold.
How does water enter my home?
In
most cases water enters a home where the floor meets the wall.
Water will also seep in through cracks in the walls or window
wells. Determining where your water problem stems from is the
first step in fixing the problem. Some of the signs to look for
are cracked or bubbled walls and wet spots.
Are new homes usually waterproofed by the contractor?
No.
In some cases the contractor will apply tar to the walls, but tar
is not a very good waterproofing agent. Tar tends to crack as it
gets old and water comes through the weakest point in the tar.
Some contractors will bury drain tile. But without
graveling around the drain tile properly, this tile ends up clogged.
The only way to be sure your home is fully waterproofed is to
hire a professional to do it.
How does your crack repair compare to the patching crack repair kits sold in stores?
Berger
Waterproofing does what is called a "permanent crack repair".
While using a patching kit may solve your water leak for a couple
of months or even years, it will not last. Patching kits do
nothing for the structural damage caused by cracks. We use an
epoxy injection, the same material used by our navy to fix
cracks in submarines, to permanently seal cracks. This is
done by attaching injection ports to the crack and filling the them
with a liquid that when it hardens is stronger than concrete.
My finished basement is leaking. Can you fix it without tearing the walls out?
Yes!
We have fixed water problems in lots of finished basements
without the need to tear the walls out. We simply use floor
edging in conjunction with drain tile and a sump pump to fix the water
problems. We do this without removing walls or causing any
further damage.
Is your work under some kind of warranty?
Yes!
Most of our services are covered under an industry leading 25
year warranty. Berger Waterproofing services are performed by
true waterproofing professionals. When your home has been
waterproofed by us, your water problems should be cured for the life of
your home.
